The first workshop of the BeMAGIC project entitled “Fundamentals of magnetoelectricity and how it can boost energy efficiency” took place the 9th-10th of September 2020. The Consortium was forced to organize this event online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The workshop was organized by CNR, assisted by the Coordinator team (UAB), and it gathered together the recruited ESRs (Early Stage Researchers) and at least one representative from each Beneficiary and Partner organizations. The first session of the event was devoted to welcome the participants and present the project to the network members. Afterwards, the representatives of the network organizations delivered short talks to introduce their institutions. In the afternoon, the ESRs introduced themselves, their educational and scientific background and their project. During the management session, the following management aspects were tackled: deliverables and milestones, events, reporting, financial management, secondments, dissemination and outreach. The training for ESRs was scheduled on Thursday 10th of September. Dr. Cheng Song (Tsinghua University, China), Prof. Nicoleta Lupu (NIRDTP, Romania) and Prof. Paulo Freitas (INL, Portugal) delivered scientific lectures and Dr. Alba L’Astorina and Dr. Rita Giuffredi (IREA, CNR, Italy) provided training on RRI (Responsible Research and Innovation).

Two members of the BeMAGIC project, namely Prof. Judith Driscoll (UCAM) and Prof. Jordi Sort (UAB), are involved in the organization of an AIP Publishing Horizons conference entitled “Materials Challenges for Memory”. This conference will cover the materials challenges of different memory technologies, from the fundamental processes and mechanisms, to industry perspectives on materials specifications and manufacturing. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Materials Challenges for Memory will be a virtual conference.

The 1st BeMAGIC workshop, organized by CNR (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche), will take place online the 9th – 10th of September 2020. This event, entitled “Fundamentals of magnetoelectricity and how it can boost energy efficiency”, will gather together all the recruited ESRs (Early Stage Researchers) and at least one representative of each Beneficiary and Partner Organization. The main goals of this event are: (i) present the project to the network members, (ii) introduce the recruited ESRs, the Beneficiaries and the Partner Organizations, (iii) discuss management issues and (iv) provide training to the ESRs. The online platform which will hold the workshop will be Microsoft Teams. Invitations to join the event will be sent to the participants at the beginning of September. 712. W.E. Heraeus Seminar on Energy Efficient Magnetoelectric Materials by Ionic Approaches

The 712. W.E. Heraeus Seminar on Energy Efficient Magnetoelectric Materials by Ionic Approaches (26.-29.01.2020) in Bad Honnef/Germany brought together worldwide leading scientists and young researchers to provide a forum for an overview of the current understanding of ionic effects in magnetoelectric materials. Fundamental ionic mechanisms and their correlation with magnetic phenomena, utilization of the spatial resolution achieved by advanced interface-sensitive measurement techniques, and routes toward the implementation of nanodevices were covered.

The BeMAGIC kick-off meeting was held on 28-29 November 2019 in Gran Hotel Rey don Jaime, Castelldefels, Spain. This event was organized by the Coordinator institution, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and it gathered together the representatives from the Beneficiary Partners and Partner Organizations of the project. After the welcome presentations delivered by Prof. Enric Llebot, Director of the Physics Department, and Prof. Armand Sánchez, Vice-Rector of research of UAB, the Coordinator, Prof. Jordi Sort, presented the project, the objectives and the work packages of the action. Afterwards, the Training Manager, Dr. Eva Pellicer, explained in detail the training strategy. Importantly, the representatives of the Beneficiary Partners and Partner organizations introduced their institutions and their role within BeMAGIC by delivering a brief presentation. In addition, the Project Manager, Dr. Jordi Malapeira, presented the management aspects and the Consortium Agreement, the Recruitment Manager, Prof. Paola Tiberto, showed the BeMAGIC recruitment strategy and progress and the Dissemination and Outreach Manager, Dr. Karin Leistner, explained the communication plan. The training in soft skills was tackled by Dr. Gavin Lucas from ThePaperMill, the partner company in charge of transferrable skills. To conclude the event, the Coordinator overviewed the action plan, work packages, milestones and deliverables.
